This document is designed to get you started when you have a database set up for you on the publicdb machine.
There are no logins on the machine itself, everything is done via the client programs (mysql and mysqladmin), or a local GUI, such as the local instance of phpMyAdmin we offer.
When a database is created on the public server, you are allocated a default quota of 10M, unless, as the request form indicates, you have made other arrangements with csstaff@cs.princeton.edu. Regardless of your current quota, once you have used 100% of the allocated space, you will get an email, sent through the problem system, informing you of the limit you have reached, and asking you to reduce your usage within a certain time period.
The CS department runs a MariaDB version 10.1.24 (as of Oct 2019) database server that is available to CS users for CS department projects. The server currently runs on x86, 64 bit hardware running Linux.
