Using Printer Features (e.g., simplex, duplex)

Duplex (two-sided) printing is the default for all department printers which support it. To request simplex (single-sided) printing, or any of the other special features a particular printer offers, one specifies a modified printer name for the request. The names that correspond to particular printer features can be found in the output of the printers command. For example, to request duplex printing use a printer name ending with "/duplex", such as lpr -Php_232/duplex filename. Note that not all files can be printed duplex even though they are queued to a duplex-capable printer as the PostScript file may already specify simplex printing. If this is the case, the file will be printed as a one-sided document.
