The following guides will help you set up and use your mobile device.
General Guidelines
Configure Email
The difference between IMAP and Exchange is that IMAP is a pull method so the email client on the device checks the server at a set time interval and Exchange is a push method so when email arrives on the server it is automatically pushed out to the device.
Make sure you have an active wireless network connection before following these steps.
Note: Andriod menus vary from vendor to vendor but the settings you need are listed below.
- Tap the Application menu icon from your home screen.
- Tap the Email icon
- Tap the Menu/Settings
- Tap Add Account
- Fill out the following fields as appropriate:
- Address - Enter your CS email address. This should be in the form username(at)cs.princeton.edu.
- Password - Enter your CS Password.
- Tap Next
- Choose IMAP
- Fill out the following fields as appropriate IMAP settings:
- Address - Enter your CS email address. This should be in the form username(at)cs.princeton.edu.
- Password - Enter your CS Password.
- IMAP Server - imap.cs.princeton.edu
- PORT: 993
- Security Type: SSL/TLS
- Fill out the following fields as appropriate for SMTP settings:
- SMTP: server
- PORT: 587
- Security Type: STARTTLS
- Address - Enter your CS email address. This should be in the form username(at)cs.princeton.edu.
- Password - Enter your CS Password.
- Tap Next
- Choose your checking frequency options
- Tap Next
- Choose your Account Name settings
- Tap Next
Make sure you have an active wireless network connection before following these steps.

- Address - Enter your CS email address. This should be in the form username(at)cs.princeton.edu.
- Password - Enter your CS Password.
- Tap Next
- Choose Exchange
- Fill out the following fields as appropriate Exchange settings:
- Domain/User - This should be in the form just your username
- Password - Enter your CS Password.
- Server - webmail.cs.princeton.edu
- Check the box for: Use secure connection (SSL)
- Tap Ok at the next menu
- Choose the Accounts options you would like
- Tap Next
- Tap Activate
- Check that email is working
Make sure you have an active wireless network connection before following these steps.
- Tap the Settings icon from your home screen.
- Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
- Tap add Account... under the "Accounts" heading.
- Tap Other.
- Tap Add Mail Account.
- Fill out the following fields as appropriate:
- Name - Enter your real name - this is what other people will see when they receive your email.
- Address - Enter your CS email address. This should be in the form username(at)cs.princeton.edu.
- Password - Enter your CS Password.
- Description - Enter "CS Mail" as the Description.
- Tap Next.
- Tap IMAP at the top of the screen.
- In the Incoming Mail Server area,
- Host Name: imap.cs.princeton.edu
- User Name: Your CS username (not your full email address, just your username)
- Password: Your CS password should already be filled in from step 6 above
- In the Outgoing Mail Server area,
- Host Name: smtp.cs.princeton.edu
- User Name: Your CS username (not your full email address
- Password: You do have to enter your CS password here
- Tap Next at the top of the screen. You should see a message that "Your account is verified." If your account is not verified, go back and check all your settings. You may have entered a typo. Remember that your CS username is not your full email address.
- Tap Save.
Your iPhone/iPad/iPod is now configured to check your mail! You may now select which items you would like to sync (mail and notes). To read your CS email, click on Mail from the iPhone/iPad toolbar.
If you are unable to connect follow these steps to check that the settings are correct:
- Tap the Settings icon from your home screen.
- Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
- Select the "CS Mail" under Accounts
- Select the Account under IMAP
- Tap Advanced
- Under the Incoming Settings the following should be set:
- Use SSL: ON
- Server Port: 993
- Tap Account to go back to the previous section
- Tap SMTP under the Outgoing Mail Server
- Tap "smtp.cs.princeton.edu" under Primary Server
- Under the Outgoing Mail Server the following should be set:
- Use SSL: ON
- Authentication: Password
- Server Port: 587
- Tap Done
- Check to see if you can send and recieve email

- Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
- Tap add Account... under the "Accounts" heading.
- Tap Microsoft Exchange.
- Fill out the following fields as appropriate:
- Email - Enter your CS email address. This should be in the form username(at)cs.princeton.edu.
- Password - Enter your CS Password.
- Description - Enter "CS Mail" as the Description.
- Tap Next.
- In the Exchange area,
- Email - Enter your CS email address. This should be in the form username(at)cs.princeton.edu.
- Server: webmail.cs.princeton.edu
- Domain: leave blank
- User Name: Your CS username (not your full email address, just your username)
- Password: Your CS password should already be filled in from step above
- Description - Enter "CS Mail" as the Description.
- Tap Next.
- Choose you Exchange options
- Tap Save.
Your iPhone/iPad/iPod is now configured to check your mail! You may now select which items you would like to sync (mail and notes). To read your CS email, click on Mail from the iPhone/iPad toolbar.
