About the CS Guide

The CS Guide is intended to be your main source of information on departmental computing. The front page of the guide will display current outages for any computing or network related problems. Each page has a forms section to request computing resources available to users in the department. The guide has documentation on a variety of topics that users will need to configure/use/troubleshoot things like email, web pages, and network related tasks.

Please make sure to check the CS Guide and use the search facility before asking questions. The CS Guide allows users to make comments on any document in the guide. This allows users to let us and other users know about tips, tricks, or errors on a certain topic found in the guide. During the next revision of a particular page, we will fold in user-supplied comments as appropriate.

Here are some notes about the site:

  • Logging into the CS Guide will show you additional content like disk and email quotas.
  • The site allows users to make comments on pages (after logging-in with your CS NetID and password).
  • Notice boxes (downtimes, status, alerts) are available on the home page of the CS Guide. CS Staff will update these as needed. Please refer to these notices before sending us mail about problems or outages.
  • The site available on via https (port 443/SSL) only. Passwords are required for some areas of the site, and rather than switching back and forth between http and https, we decided to make it SSL-only.
  • Each page of the CS Guide has a forms section along the left side that you can use to request resources. Please use these when making one of these requests. You will be required to log in with your CS NetID or your OIT NetID.
