CS Papercut Printing from Mac

Important Notes:

* All Mac OS Users: If your login name is different from your OIT NetID you will need to follow the instructions at the bottom of this page.

* Mac OS Catalina users: you might experience greyed out .ppd file when trying to add CSPawPrint and CSPawPrintColor queues on Mac OS Catalina. Mac OS Catalina currently does not support papercut and we are waiting for an updated driver.   In the meantime, please use Generic Postscript drivers when adding CS Print Queues.

How to Print from a Mac OS X System

This page describes how to configure a MAC OS X machine for printing in the CS Department.

Bring up System Preferences, and click on "Print & Scan":

  • Click on the "+" to add a printer.
  • Select the "IP" icon at the top of the window.
  • Type in the following settings for the printer:
    • Address: lpdrelay.cs.princeton.edu
    • Protocol: Internet Printing Protocol - IPP
    • Queue: /printers/CSPawPrint or /printers/CSPawPrintColor
    • Name: CSPawPrint or CSpawPrintColor
    • Location: "CS bw virtual queue" or "CS color virtual queue"
    • Under the "Use:" choose "Generic Postscript Printer"
  • Click the "Add" button

Set any options for the printer you want to use and click the "Ok" button. Defaults will work in most cases. All printers have duplexing units.

Printer should now be available in your printer list.

If your login username differs from your OIT NetID

If your login username differs from your OIT NetID on your computer, you should modify your CUPS client configuration file - /etc/cups/client.conf. Be sure to replace "PutYourOITNetIDHere" with your own OIT NetID:

  • Terminal
    • sudo sh -c "echo User PutYourOITNetIDHere > /etc/cups/client.conf"
  • Reboot

If you don't have admin rights, please contact csstaff@cs.princeton.edu and one of us will assist you.
